STEM Jobs
Have any of you heard of this company or this guy?
Here's the e-mail my colleague Angela got...and we're trying to figure this out...whether it's safe and appropriate.
I wanted to update you on progress at STEM Jobs and let you know of a free
resource we're rolling out in March.
We have partnered with key faculty and researchers in teaching STEM education
and connecting education curriculum to careers - resulting in 7 principles of practice.
On March 3, 2015, we are rolling out a, free three-part, Classroom Training Series
that would be useful to both for educators (including Job Corps instructors - or workforce
instructors) and career advisors (to better understand how they can partner with educators
to connect classrooms to careers). The series helps to frame a common understanding
of STEM between academia and workforce development. It addresses the concept of
"STEM Anxiety" that inhibits many students from succeeding in gaining critical STEM skills,
and introduces our student-developed, "Do What You Love", campaign message. We seek to
inspire students, jobs seekers and individuals in transition to open doors to their dreams
by following STEM training pathways. I have an attachment providing the topics that will
be highlighted in the series.
Secondly, we have revised version of the STEM Type Quiz - we have now completed
psychometric evaluation of the tool - as an interest inventory for individuals and
students seeking direction in their job search, it can help connect those interests to
occupations and from occupations to training providers and employers. There is no cost
for individuals to take the quiz. I have an overview document as well that outlines our underlying
research and how we have tied our STEM Types to O*Net occupations. I would be glad to send
it to you.
I'd love to set up a time to discuss everything so that your network can join thousands of others
currently utilizing our free resources.

Hi, Elic,
I have been in conversation with Brenda Nagel, who works for the organization, and do know a bit about them. They wanted us to announce the rollout of their Classroom Training Series. However, they have not been vetted as far as I know. I suggested they contact Mark Stevens in Member Benefits.
Mike
Elic,
Mark Stevens is no longer with the NEA Academy. I will send this to our Partner Relations department. We have not vetted this group. I will send them through the process.
